Ryman Healthcare
General Manager Procurement
  • New Zealand Listed company, Australasian-wide operations
  • Develop a high performing function, lead commercial outcomes
  • Boost your career within this exceptional, values based NZX company
About the company
Founded in Christchurch, New Zealand in 1984, Ryman Healthcare is a leader in retirement living and aged care with the driving purpose to enhance freedom, connection and wellbeing for people as we grow older. Ryman owns and operates 48 villages in New Zealand and Australia and employs approximately 7,700 team members across a range of different sectors.

Everything must be “Good enough for mum and dad”

Getting “fit for the future”, Ryman has recently redefined its strategy and operational objectives that will ensure the commercially sustainable commitment by the company to purpose-driven care and exceptional resident experience.

To support achievement of the redefined strategy, Ryman is looking for a talented and strategically capable General Manager to establish and lead a best practice procurement strategy accompanied by a best practice procurement function. Is this you?

About the opportunity
Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer and leading a team of procurement specialists, the General Manager, Procurement takes overall accountability for developing then leading a high performing, effective and efficient procurement function that supports the business objectives and values of Ryman.

In doing this, the General Manager, Procurement will, amongst other things:
  • Lead a high performing team, ensuring clarity of expectations and achievement of objectives,
  • Develop a procurement function founded on robust governance, sound decision-making, optimised processes and strong supplier relationships.
  • Develop strong, workable relationship with key internal leaders; supporting budget holders to make robust procurement decisions that achieve objectives.
  • Oversee the effective operating of the office and warehousing functions.
  • Hold in priority, Ryman’s commitment to sustainability, health, safety and wellness.
This is an exciting opportunity to both create a best-in-class procurement function while boosting your career forward within one of NZ’s most impactful listed companies. Are you ready?

About you
To be successful as the General Manager, Procurement you will hold a relevant industry qualification and have proven experience and capability designing and leading procurement functions in complex organisations. With diversified industry experience, you will have ideally worked within construction or infrastructure, and you may have extended your experience into healthcare or hospitality. What’s not negotiable is experience with complexity and scale – Ryman is a large, complex and diverse organisation situated on both sides of the Tasman. Up for the challenge?

Sitting on the quieter, “listening” end of the communication spectrum, you will prefer to thoughtfully and thoroughly work to understand the needs of your stakeholders and suppliers, developing a full picture of procurement opportunities, risks, challenges and requirements before moving to define the procurement function. A strategic perspective and a considered leader and manager of relationships, people will describe you as intelligent, reliable and committed to delivery excellence.

Are you ready for this exceptional career opportunity in strategic procurement leadership?
