The Business Benefits of Effective Networking

In the current market, making the most of both existing and potential opportunities is more critical than ever. Networking, if we don’t over think it, is essentially meeting people and finding out about them. The result of this networking exercise can be the strengthening of an existing relationship or the establishment of a new business or personal relationship. In a work context, we “network” to build and maintain business relationships which in turn has the result, amongst other things, of protecting and increasing business revenue streams.

 

Not surprisingly, developing and maintaining business relationships is an essential element of a successful business and as such it is often an activity that forms part of our work day responsibilities. 

 

Three common areas that people need development on in a networking context are:

 

  1. Confidence in developing these relationships
  2. Knowing the right behaviours to use during a meeting with a client or business contact
  3. Active listening – the best networkers are the best listeners

Decipher Group has developed a networking programme that can be tailored to the individuals within your team to ensure that they are making the most of current and future relationships.  We will take you through the steps required to put you and your company in the best possible position to convert those opportunities into sales. 

 

Many of you have had considerable experience in networking and some of you are new to this. We can ensure you that no matter what camp you sit in, you and your company will stand to reap significant rewards from attending this programme.

 

This is an interactive programme focused on developing the tools and understanding to successfully leverage off your networks.  The programme can be adapted to suit all levels of networking experience.

 

A common approach is outlined below, but again the programme will be tailored to your organisation and its individuals’ needs.

 

  1. Introduction by Decipher Group to the all participants and groups outlining the process and initiating the coaching phase on client meetings and relationship building in a group format. This will include any preparatory work.
  2. Coaching Theory – Small groups and Face to Face Sessions
  3. Coaching Practical and questions – Small groups and Face to Face Sessions
  4. Function – Attendance at a client function or an environment similar where practical application of the course can be demonstrated and practised.
  5. Group Debrief/Review – Brief meeting with the group as a whole to discuss successes and challenges
  6. Management Debrief/Review – Meeting with Management/Directors as appropriate to discuss successes and challenges plus form objectives for continued client contact.

Investment and Numbers required:

From our experience and drawing directly on the success of other programmes, we strongly recommend that all levels of staff within the business participate and that this be undertaken in groups of a maximum of 5 people. While we recognise that the more senior staff may have a higher comfort level building relationships with clients, we have seen increased success of teams where the senior staff participate in the programme and take on a more mentoring role in supporting the less experienced members of the team.
